It has been my dream to have a women’s shelter of my own. This has been a passion of mine since I was
young. I spent a lot of time volunteering at women’s shelters around Utah. It fulfills me yet starves me. I
have a strong desire to stop abuse all around and for people to realize that we should not be ashamed
of any adverse things that have been experienced. It is having the shame to speak up that prohibits
abused women to heal. No shame. Let’s talk about this.
Being surrounded by women who are close to my heart, I have seen the hurt, the sadness, and the pain
in their eyes. I feel this inner pull to serve and help these women come together and talk about their
stories and to help stop this madness and start the healing process. Having my own kids has opened my
eyes to so much more. Our children are our future and we need to educate them to be more aware and
help them to feel comfortable speaking up about abuse. There is a great need to have programs around
the schools for prevention. We also need to provide children with the knowledge that they have a voice.
One of my main goals is to prevent this kind of abuse before it actually happens to our children. I want
to be able to help women who have been affected by abuse to heal so they can get their voices back and
can see and believe how beautiful and strong they are. Enough is enough. Let’s all come together as a
nation and stop this nasty cycle. “Believe in yourself”. You are stronger than you think…..
